Ford Tries Harder? | ClassicCars.com Journal

Tesla is America’s #1 EV brand. Ever wonder what’s #2? Chances you have gasoline running in your veins and you don’t care, but it’s a valid question. Avis? Nah, wrong industry. Ford? You wouldn’t be wrong.

And how are Ford’s EVs doing in the American market? Here’s the stats for October 2022.

2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E

Mustang Mach-E: Ah, the vehicle that fans of the pony car love to hate! Compared to October 2021, sales grew 7.3 percent to 3,055. Total calendar year sales so far through October is 31,144, which is 43.5 percent better than 2021.

F-150 Lightning: It’s America’s best-selling EV truck with sales of 2,436, which is its best month since it was introduced. Total calendar-year production through October is 11,196.

E-Transit: Ford’s electric commercial van, the E-Transit sold 770 units in October. That’s a 71.5 percent gain from September 2022’s sales. Current tally for the year is 5,157.

Overall, Ford’s October EV market share is up 2.2 percent compared to October 2021. That translates to a market share of 8.9 percent.

Contrast Ford’s EV numbers with aggregate Ford production (not including Lincoln): Ford is down 9.8 percent for October 2022 (compared to the same in 2021), and down 2.0 percent for the calendar year.

Regardless of Ford’s or the market’s ups or downs for 2022, it will be interesting to see how Ford maintains its position as the #2 producer of EVs in the U.S.
