Audi unveils new R8 V10 GT

Audi unveiled its new R8 Coupe V10 GT RWD, which will be the swan song for the venerable V10 engine that has powered the supercar for the last 12-years. The special-edition R8 GT will be limited to 333 units worldwide and though details for the U.S. version are not yet available, the supercar will be available at dealerships starting in 2023.

For its final V10 R8, Audi went all-out with a 5.2-liter V10 that produces 602 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. This a 40-horse increase from the R8 V10 performance RWD.

The engine is paired to a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that features the new Torque Rear driving mode that allows drivers to choose their own level of ESC support. This enables controlled and simultaneously precise oversteering. The seven-stage torque rear can be adjusted via the control knob on the steering wheel.

With this powertrain setup, the new R8 GT can go from 0-100 kmh (62 mph) in 3.4-seconds, reaches 200 km/h (124 mph) in just 10.1 seconds and has a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph).

To keep weight down, the R8 GT rides on lightweight, forged 20-inch, 10-spoke wheels with Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires that are designed for both road and racetrack use. The ceramic braking system helps keep weight down, as does the front anti-roll bar that is made from carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. The two coupling rod connections are made of red anodized aluminum that increases road-holding and cornering dynamics while reducing weight.

The high-gloss Carbon Aerokit produces greater stability on the road, which can lead to faster cornering speeds. It also includes front splitter, flics, side skirt covers, cW-elements on the sides of the rear bumper, diffuser and a rear wing with gooseneck suspension.

Audi put together an exclusive black and red interior. The interior has red belts (only available in the R8 GT from 12-years ago), and the floor mats and bucket seats feature the lettering of the special model in black and red. The sequential numbering of each R8 GT is partially matted in a carbon inlay in the middle of the center console next to the gear selector lever.
